Some nice changes

Wed Aug 9, 2006, 5:27 AM
Well well well, the past few weeks certainly have been fun filled and interesting!
(original journal written 5 or 6 Aug)

1. Jackson proposed to me at the start of July, and thus we are now engaged :)
Well what can I say? We went away for the weekend (see this journal) and he proposed. I most certainly did accept! Don't ask when the wedding's going to be, because we're not planning that yet; we're enjoying being engaged and knowing we don't have to be paranoid about "Will he/she get freaked out if I talk about [stuff in future]?" =P
If you want to go throw some "Congratulations for being engaged with such a wonderful girl!!"s on Jackson's dA page, he's at ~rednecker; he hardly ever comes online here but no doubt will appreciate strangers' sentiments when he does =P

2. Deposit for our trip to Japan has been put down.
All the gory details can be found in this journal. Japan and snow goodness! There's still some more gear we have to borrow/buy, and we may yet be driving down to Sydney/south to get it (such is our devotion and standards) but all in all ZOMG WE CAN HARDLY WAIT!

3. Jackson's finished his pre-voc electrical apprentice course, and is now being jerked around by a job recruitment agency looking for an apprenticeship.
Anybody in Brisbane know of a good place with an electrical apprenticeship they need filling? Alas. My bébé has had a bad run with a certain recruitment agency, or really, one person there in particular, but hopefully things are looking up.

4. Dad's birthday party was great fun!
Dad recently had his birthday and to celebrate we had a Murder Mystery/1920s party down at the shop. A decent number of family members and friends turned up (around 40 people in total, I think?), all dressed up and ready to be suspicious over who murdered the children's nanny! Me in my lovely $20 white flapper dress from ebay ;) a scarf around my head, some white gloves and a long cigarette holder. Jackson suited up for the evening  and had some very snazzy blue cufflinks, too.

5. I figured it was time to get a new job, get out in the real world and find something to do with my life, and so applied for a Desktop Publishing Traineeship.
Earning $440 a fortnight just won't cut the mustard, in the end; I need a new job for a lot of reasons. I thought I could try being an Office Assistant at some other company, but the more I read the job ads/descriptions, the more I dreaded the very thought! After a lot of job searching, looking at different careers and things available, I found a "Desktop Publishing Traineeship" going at a place about 15-20mins drive north of my place. I sent in my resume, and got a call the next day from a lady there, asking me to come in this Tuesday for an interview. Wow! Talk about a quick response. Either they must really like my resume (please pretty please!) or they just haven't had anybody else apply for job (hmm, oh well!). So we'll see how that pans out!
edit:
Went for job interview today (9 Aug), I think it went fairly well! They say they have a few more people to interview, but will, "probably call" me (the way it was said was positive)! Cool.

6. In high hopes, I had started to knit a scarf (lovely merino wool, 2x2 rib) but about 20something rows in realised that I wouldn't have enough wool for it to be a decent length :(
When I saw this yarn at Spotlight, I just had to have it! I walked away a few times, umming and ahhing over the price ($7 for 100g), but in the end I took 2 home with me and got excited over the prospects of what I would make! Of course, I had nothing in mind at the time, but I knew that something awesome could come out of it. It did! I made two cool gloves (okay fine, two cylinders with thumb holes =P). Then I decided that a scarf would be great to go with them, due to merino warmness and the erratic colours. I was slightly dismayed by the conformity of colours (see pictures below for colour repetition) but never one to be disuaded, I continue upon my path to righteous scarfness. Fast forward some more... *mumble grumble* indeed, I'm now pretty sure that my 'little' 110m of wool just won't be enough  so the scarf has been pulled out and rewrapped for future useage.
a) prepare to be frogged
b) look, ma, no needles!
c) ever wanted to see some ribs close up?
d) hairy ball
e) two sheep
f) post-ripping aka all wrapped up.

Edit! I finished the merino beanie last night (ie. 6 Aug)!! It looks really cool, I am quite pleased with it, and it fits well, too! I was hoping to be able to roll up the edge on my beanie but nope this one just fits snuggly. :boogie: Woo!

7. I have started 2 beanies; a green one, and one out of the aforementioned colourful merino.
Never one to dwell on the past :pirate: I unravelled that old scarf and got started on a beanie. Indeed, I am only a few rows in, but I've started, and that's (obviously) the first step. I was babysitting some kids last night and made start on a green beanie, as well, which should be interesting :hmm: I only half-understand the instructions for that one and will either
A) make pieces and sew it together (as I currently have 2 x 7row strips with ear flaps at the end) and have started on a 20row strip to join aforementioned earflap pieces, or
B) get rid of the whole thing and try again
Hopefully option A will work.

That's probably about it for now :) Quite a long journal indeed! And how awesome are the tickerfactory's little timers? Yes, my friends, "Very awesome!" is the right answer.

When Tess had passed over the crest of the hill he turned to go his own way, and did not know that he loved her still.
I didn't know you spoke dutch! (end of the journal)
I don't, but the internet does :giggle:

CONGRATULATIONS GABY!! :glomp: I hope you two enjoy being engaged! Your life is pretty peachy right now eh? :giggle: Aww that's so great, I'm so happy for you guys. I wish you two luck in everything, and if you are asking about apprenticeships for Jackson in the electrical industry, you should ask Bethany, her father is an electrician. I hope you two have fun in Japan also!! :)

Today I saw a plane that could bring you home.
Thanks Camille :) Life's fairly peachy, yep, though one thing I didn't mention in the journal is that I'm skin-sick again at the moment :( Went into relapse, one could say. I've got dots all over my stomach and back and a rash thing on my face, but hopefully it'll clear up soon... Speaking of skin sick, how's everything going with you in that respect? And I hear/read that your boy is coming over soon! That's pretty cool. I might ask Beth, we'll see :)
