Japanned

Mon Mar 5, 2007, 1:35 AM
It was only two weeks, but they were the longest two weeks of my life :)

Home, sweet home. We're back from Japan, and had a wonderful, lovely, exciting, interesting, great time.

The snow was good, supposedly Niseko's having a "bad season" at the moment, but anything's better than the Australian snow that Jackson and I have experienced :P There was powder in between trees, but I never seemed to have much luck with it, and was happy to stick to groomed slopes. Even the groomers had fresh snow on them, so it was quite good for me about 85% of the time.

We boarded at Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Higashiyama and An'nupuri; four resorts/areas on the one mountain, "The Niseko United". Most days we boarded at Hirafu and Hanazono, as it was closest to our accommodation. We also took a day trip to Rusutsu, which was probably one of the best days that I had. Great groomed runs, beautiful bluebird day, amazing view from every area, my mp3 player and Jackson to keep me company, no annoying long flat bits like at Hirafu and Hanazono (damn skiiers and their ability to 'walk' across flat bits :shakefist:).

I'm proud to say that I've advanced in my snowboarding, and have come a long way since Thredbo and Perisher 2005! Time to plan the next trip? Hmm, Canada seems the likely choice. However, it could be a little while until that happens, as there are various other things to save for (moving out, etc).

Jackson has a lot of pictures on his camera, as he's got a slim little number, whereas I was too worried about the weight of my Fuji S9000 and also the problem of, "What if I have a huge stack? I'll either break the camera, or do some serious damage to my back when I fall on it." Though I do have two pictures from my Polaroid camera (thanks, Ants and Pete) here! Also, a picture taken on our last afternoon here.

And now I'm home, sweet home. My own bed, my own pillow. No disembodied Japanese voices floating across the mountain, no supermarkets with CD players yelling at me, not thinking about which bin I put my garbage in (their recycling system is hardcore, in a good way). Just home, and with some books to read :)

Welcome home. I'll probably see you tomorrow.

When Tess had passed over the crest of the hill he turned to go his own way, and did not know that he loved her still.

:giggle: I'd forgotten about that! Just might do.

Thanks for the welcome :)

Thanks dear :) Your man's still in Japan, isn't he? We had such a great time :D I'll find a way to get those pics from Jackson/on the internet, even if it only involves putting them on Flickr/Photobucket/etc!

...uh....we broke up.....It was kinda sad, but I have an amazing friendship out of it. The distance, and the fact that our lives were going in completely extreme opposites didn't really help either.

But enough of that! I'm so glad you had fun! You went to an area full of stunning!

Ah! I feel like I should have somehow known that... but alas. Hurrah for amazing friendships :)

I'm so glad you and your fiancé (is hearing that term still exciting? :P) had fun in Japan! Hehehehe. Oh yeah, snow. Inexistent in Australia. And wow. Hardcore recycling systems...is it anything like our hardcore water restrictions?

 CS.
